Master Gardeners in Training embark on a 100-hour program of 18 classes over a six-month period beginning in January 2020. After graduation, each new MG must volunteer at least 50 hours to public education activities during the first year, helping to educate the public, and answering questions on home gardening and pest management.

Master Gardeners become certified based on successfully completing the Master Gardener Training course (MGT). Training consists of fourteen classroom and lab modules, including soil science, botany, entomology, plant pathology, pruning and propagation. Classes are taught by academic and industry professionals. Through the Master Gardener training sessions and workshops, you'll become a more knowledgeable gardener. You will receive publications, seeds and other related material. You will be able to attend regular Master Gardener workshops around the state as well as state and national Master Gardener conferences. Course Details. The Master Gardener Program is administered at the county level where recruitment, training, and volunteer service occur. Master Gardener trainees are required to participate in a minimum of 40 hours of classroom training, score 80 percent on the final exam, and fulfill 50 hours of volunteer service. Our next Master Gardener training program in Hamilton County will be in the fall 2020; it will be conducted each Thursday for 10 weeks, beginning September 17th. Classes will be from 9am to 4pm.
